Fellowship Application Deadline Approaching – December 1st, 2019

Dear Friends, Family, and Colleagues,

We have been moved by the submissions, from all over the world, that we have received so far for the inaugural Andrew Berends Film Fellowship. As we approach the December 1st application deadline, we hope you’ll help us get the word out to more filmmakers and filmmaker channels over the next month. Here are a few ways you can help:
Post the following widely to your social media accounts: The first year of the Andrew Berends Film Fellowship is now accepting applications. Seeking emerging filmmakers currently working on feature docs that embody Andy’s spirit and determination to share unheard stories.
Introduce us at info (at) andrewberends (dot) net to organizations that work with filmmakers that may be interested in publicizing the Fellowship to their lists.
Send a link to this website to any individual filmmakers who you think may be a good fit.
And of course, if you are interested in applying to the Fellowship, you can learn more and apply here.
The Fellowship is accepting applicants, 18 years or older, from all backgrounds and locations, who are currently working on a feature documentary project in the spirit of Andrew Berends’ work. Note that while many of Andy’s films take place in conflict zones, the Fellowship is not limited to films about war; all stories are welcome to be submitted.

We recommend that applicants screen at least 2 of Andy’s films, available here, before applying. In addition, applicants must have either:
-Completed at least one feature documentary project previously OR;
-Completed at least one published documentary photography project OR;
-Worked as lead editor, producer or cinematographer on a feature documentary project OR;
-Completed a trailer or sample of the current project.
The Fellowship will include:
A one-time grant of $5,000 towards filmmaking expenses (this is not a co-production grant);
Connection with a Fellowship Mentor for guidance in finishing the project;
A ScreeningRoom Pro account to connect with other artists and screen your film;
Film Festival passes to the Camden International Film Festival, Vail Film Festival, Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival and more to be announced;
Networking opportunities as they arise;
Other benefits to include publications, industry events, editing and other software.
If you have any general questions about the Fellowship, you can reach us at info@andrewberends.net, and we continue to accept tax-deductible donations through IFP here.

Many thanks,

The Fellowship Board:
